Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau response to optimized biological therapy.
Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau response to optimized biological therapy. Dermatol Online J. 2019 Feb 15;25(2): Authors: Adas A, Dadban A, Arnault JP, Chaby G, Lok C Abstract Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau, first described in 1890, is an uncommon variant of pustular psoriasis. It presents as a sterile pustular eruption of the tips of fingers and toes. The condition has a chronic, relapsing course and is often resistant to many anti-psoriatic therapies. In the following case, we present our experience of etanercept use in a 61-year-old man. Although initial therapy with high-dose etanercept achieved a rapid, sustained response and remission, the lesions relapsed a few months into a lower, maintenance dosage. This result prompted the use a second biotherapeutic agent ustekinumab, which resulted in complete remission, but required a higher dosage than recommended with reduced dosing intervals. Conclusions: Increased concentrations of sNRP-1 and unchanged values of sHLA-G and sPD-1 concentrations may be indicative of impaired immune tolerance mechanisms in psoriasis. PMID: 31320849 [PubMed]
This study is based on data from IMS® Diagnosis Monitor and included patients who had received a biological drug in dermatology practices due to psoriasis (PSO), gastroenterology practices due to Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC), or rheumatology practices due to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) between April 2015 and December 2018. We analyzed 1,748,948 CD/UC-related prescriptions, 3,968,879 RA-related prescriptions, and 7,321,496 PSO-related prescriptions. Of these, 343,263 (19.6%) prescriptions for IBD, 92,343 (16.2%) prescriptions for RA, and 169,573 (6.9%) prescriptions for PSO were for biologicals. The pro...
A rash under the breast often results from skin irritation, an allergic reaction, or heat rash. Other causes can include viral and bacterial infections and skin disorders, such as eczema or psoriasis. Learn more about the possible causes here.
Conclusion: The blood pressure, sr. triglycerides, sr. high density lipids, fasting blood sugar were significant in cases as compared to controls satisfying the criteria of Adult Panel Treatment III (ATP III) of Metabolic Disorders. PMID: 31309797 [PubMed - in process]
Conclusions: Hyperhomocystienemia in psoriasis patients with or without comorbidities versus healthy controls suggests its possible dysregulation in psoriasis. The significance of hyperhomocystienemia as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular or other comorbidities in psoriasis patients remains tenuous at best. Well-designed studies will perhaps resolve this issue. PMID: 31309792 [PubMed - in process]

Psoriasis is a Th17 autoimmune disease associated with an increased risk cardiovascular events and mortality. Ustekinumab, an antibody to p40, blocks cytokines IL12 and IL23, and is a highly effective and safe treatment for psoriasis.
AbstractAlthough oxidative stress plays a major role in psoriasis, the association between oxidative stress biomarker levels and psoriasis in humans remains controversial. Relevant articles were retrieved by searching the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE, without any time limit (updated March 10th, 2019). The pooled weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and catalase (CAT) were calculated for each study. Heterogeneity test, publication bias analysis, and sensitivity analysis were perfor...
Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated a significantly increased risk of schizophrenia among patients with psoriasis.
