Discussion Transplantation is not a common problem for primary care physicians but when a child’s disease has progressed to end-stage organ failure, transplantation can be the only treatment available. While the primary care provider usually is not involved in the daily management of patients before, during and after transplantation, they can be involved in many areas. These can include providing appropriate primary and acute care, ordering and obtaining necessary medical tests, medications and equipment, assisting with medical insurance, providing medical history and records to consultants, translating medical infor...

ConclusionThe available data are still insufficient to understand the full spectrum of the involvement of the auditory organs by Zika virus, the pathogenesis of this involvement or even to confirm the causal association between auditory involvement and virus infection. The screening and follow-up recommendations still present points of controversy.ResumoIntroduçãoPossíveis associações entre a infecção pelo Zika vírus e perda auditiva foram observadas durante a epidemia nas Américas.ObjetivoDescrever as alterações auditivas, a patogênese e as...

RanaSummaryZika virus (ZIKV) infection is implicated in severe fetal developmental disorders, including microcephaly. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) post-transcriptionally regulate numerous processes associated with viral infection and neurodegeneration, but their contribution to ZIKV pathogenesis is unclear. We analyzed the mRNA and miRNA transcriptomes of human neuronal stem cells (hNSCs) during infection with ZIKV MR766 and Paraiba strains. Integration of the miRNA and mRNA expression data...

AbstractA 7-year-old boy that presented an encephalomyeloradiculitis and no classic symptoms of arboviruses. Zika virus (ZIKV) was confirmed by molecular analyses of cerebrospinal fluid and 1  year later by plaque reduction neutralization test. This case demonstrates that ZIKV can be associated with diffuse nervous system infection in children.
