Interest of Eosinophil Count in Bacterial Infections to Predict Antimicrobial Therapy Efficacy

To the Editor We read with great interest the article published by Kulaylat et al concerning the use of peripheral eosinopenia to predict the outcomes of 2065 patients withClostridium difficile infections (CDIs). In multivariate analysis, the authors found that undetectable eosinophil count was associated with increased in-hospital mortality and therefore was a marker of sepsis severity and admission in intensive care units. As CDI is one of the most common causes of nosocomial infection in the Unites States and has a high mortality rate, some points could be discussed.
