Former CDC contracting official sent to prison for taking payments from contractor

A former high-level contracting official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta has been sentenced to federal prison for taking more than $30,000 from a CDC contractor. Carlos Smiley, 57, of Roswell, was sentenced Nov. 15 to three months in federal prison, one year of supervised release and 200 hours community service following his release from prison.
