We examined the expression of TRPV1 in peripheral tissue and DRG neurons of CPIP model rats and we studied whether CPIP model could induce peripheral sensitization of TRPV1 channel and enhance DRG neuron excitability. Then we examined the therapeutic effects of locally applied TRPV1 specific antagonist AMG9810 on pain responses of CPIP model rats. Lastly, we explored the effects of AMG9810 on DRG neuron hyperexcitability and spinal glial activation induced by CPIP. Our results demonstrate that TRPV1 plays an important role in mediating the behavioral hypersensitivity of CPIP model rats via promoting peripheral nociceptor a...

This study aims to describe the frequency of scar-related morbidity for up to 2 years after injury and to analyze the impact of burn scars on long-term functional, psychosocial, and reintegration outcomes. METHODS: Analysis was conducted on data collected between January 2006 and May 2014 from 960 patients (2440 anatomic burn sites) using the Burn Model System (BMS) database. Study population demographics were analyzed and odds ratios for the development of raised or thick scarring were determined. Regression analyses were used to evaluate the impact of hypertrophic scarring (HTS) on psychosocial outcomes, including t...

ConclusionPain and itch after burn injuries are predicted by slightly different variables, presumably secondary to different underlying mechanisms. We conclude that age, sex (female), extent of burn injuries (total body surface area %), and injuries to the face/neck predict itching of greater severity. Patients with burn injuries that match these parameters would require greater care and closer follow up to reduce itching after healing.

We report four children who were playing with fig tree leaves during a family picnic. They were referred to a burn center with second-degree burn in about 10% of total body surface area, due to phytophotodermatitis. Most people are not aware of the potential adverse effect of the plant. The improvement in general knowledge about the dangers of contacting fig tree leaves and sap and the benefits of suitable coverage at the time of harvesting or contacting fig tree may prevent such adverse effects.

Discussion Hypopigmentation can be worrisome for many families because of cosmesis and the worry that “something is wrong.” The normal natural changes in skin-tone over the year due to different light exposure and wide variations within individuals is not something that many people are aware of. Post-inflammatory hypopigmentation is a common cause of hypopigmentation. Vitiligo is the most common cause of depigmentation. Vitiligo is an acquired, depigmenting disorder with typical lesions appearing as milky white macules with distinct margins that are not scaly. Hair (including eyebrows and eyelashes) can be dep...
