Abstract Even today, radical cystectomy with urinary diversion is one of the most complicated procedures in uro-oncology. Particularly in the long-term course, but also perioperatively, problems caused by urinary diversion play a significant role.Perioperatively, gastrointestinal problems such as an ileus, but also infections and early complications of the different anastomoses are most important. While ileus and perioperative infections can usually be treated conservatively, failure of the intestinal or ureteroileal anastomoses require regular surgical revisions. In the long-term follow-up, scarring can lead to ch...
Smoking and obesity are well-known risk factors for surgical site infection, but it is unknown whether these factors influence outcomes after repair of small umbilical and epigastric hernias with defects ≤2 cm. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether smoking and obesity are associated with readmission, reoperation for complications, and recurrence rates after elective repair of small umbilical and epigastric hernias.
Conclusion: Laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure of the internal ring using an epidural needle is a safe and feasible method for the treatment of inguinal hernias in girls. This method has the advantages of limited trauma, no scarring and a good cosmetic effect. PMID: 32427037 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Computed tomography (CT) is widely used in the diagnosis of giant paraesophageal hernias (GPEH) but has not been utilised systematically for follow-up. We performed a cross-sectional observational study to ass...
Ventral hernias in patients with intra-abdominal metastases may not be addressed owing to other oncologic priorities, but they can affect quality of life and lead to sequelae necessitating an emergency operation. We compared the national trends and perioperative outcomes for elective and nonelective ventral hernia repairs for patients with intra-abdominal metastases.
Conclusions: The most common comorbidities in Danish patients with EDS were gastrointestinal functional disorders, hernias, asthma, pneumonia, and osteoporosis. The causality between these comorbidities and EDS should be investigated further.Implications for RehabilitationEhlers-Danlos syndrome constitutes a group of connective tissue diseases causing a variable range of organ dysfunction. The comorbidity burden for patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome was unexplored previously. This study showed that the most common comorbidities in Danish patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome are gastrointestinal functional disorders, herni...
