Vivior closes unspecified round to support wearable IOL optimizer

Ophthalmic device developer Vivior said today it closed a multi-million dollar private investment round to help support its novel wearable system designed to collect activity from patients. The Zurich, Germany-based company said funds from the round will help support a clinical study exploring the usability of their system, with plans to seek clearance in Europe and the US afterwards. “We will look back in 5 years’ time and wonder how we ever managed to treat patients without objective data,” Dr. Arthur Cumming of the Wellington Eye Clinic said in a press release. Vivior is developing a wearable system designed to provide ophthalmic surgeons with more data on patients with cataracts. The system, which resembles a pair of glasses, analyzes patient lifestyle patterns using machine learning algorithms to improve personalized solutions for individuals with cataracts. “I want to use the system every day to help educate patients on how they use their vision. Understanding the exact distances and how much time spent at each distance will help them choose the best premium implant for their life long vision decision,” Dr. Vance Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D.’s Sanford School of Medicine said in a prepared statement.
