Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes hit with federal criminal fraud charges

Elizabeth Holmes, the high-profile but secretive founder of blood testing company Theranos Inc., and her second in command, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, were charged with federal wire fraud, according to a grand jury indictment unsealed Friday. Holmes, who stepped down as CEO of Theranos earlier Friday, and Balwani, the company's former president, were arraigned on the criminal charges in U.S. District Court in San Jose.
