Conclusion: Despite the benefits to patients and reducing healthcare expenditure, there has been a poor adaptation of this groundbreaking technology. Our study revealed that 79% of eligible heart failure patients did not receive the device. Therefore, efforts need to be undertaken to improve physician and patient education of the device to complement the current standard of care for congestive heart failure. PMID: 30524758 [PubMed]

This study aimed to investigate the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on damage caused to cerebellum tissue by diffuse traumatic head trauma via biochemical, histopathologic, and immuno-histochemical methods. Male Sprague-Dawley (300-350g) rats were subjected to traumatic brain injury with a weight-drop device (300 g-1 m weight-height impact). Twenty-four adult rats were randomly divided into three equal groups of 8, including a control group, traumatic brain injury (TBI) group, and TBI+CAPE treatment group (10μmol/kg/i.p.). Cerebellum tissue samples taken from anterior l...

CONCLUSIONS: In the study, total volume of the thoracic segment, volume of white matter, and the volume of grey matter, and the ratio of these volume values to each other were calculated. The SHTEREOM 1.0 software was used for calculating the volume of section specimens. PMID: 30543082 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: Plasma CD24 level was significantly higher in HCC patients than that in the controls. Plasma CD24 level was associated with tumor differentiation. The HCC patients with high plasma CD24 level had unfavorable prognosis. CD24 might be a prognostic biomarker for HCC in the future. PMID: 30543135 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study confirms VAP implant and maintenance is a beneficial and safe practice in NHPs resulting in favorable outcomes. High patency rates and low complication rates are comparable to the clinical setting. In addition to enabling comprehensive data collection, VAPs increase satisfaction and well-being by minimizing interference with daily routines and fostering cooperation. VAP implantation, together with an effective maintenance regimen and co-operative handling, is a reliable and convenient refined method for drug administration and blood sampling. We examined glycemic parameters before and after surgery and investigated the association between the change of parameters of insulin secretion (homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β)), insulin resistance (homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)) and that of urinary levels of metanephrine/normetanephrine before and after surgery. Overall, fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), HOMA-β, and HOMA-IR were improved significantly after surgery. Regression analysis showed that the improvement in HOMA-β from before to after surgery was significantly positivel...

CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that TBX1 is frequently inactivated by promoter methylation, and functions as a potential tumor suppressor in thyroid cancer through inhibiting the activities of PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK signaling pathways. PMID: 30543152 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
