Creating Sustained Improvement in Primary Care Infrastructure Will Require Long-Term Funding and Targeted Investments

Because of its value and cost-effectiveness, primary care has long been a focus of federal health policies aimed at improving care for low-income, medically vulnerable populations and communities. Building and sustaining a strong primary care system — the foundation of health care — requires a long-term commitment to sustainability and targeted investment in access enhancement and quality improvement.
