Synthesis, aggregation-induced emission and mechanochromism of a new carborane-tetraphenylethylene hybrid

Publication date: Available online 23 March 2018 Source:Journal of Organometallic Chemistry Author(s): Yong Nie, Hao Zhang, Jinling Miao, Xiaoqing Zhao, Yexin Li, Guoxin Sun The condensation reaction of 1-amino-o-carborane with an aromatic aldehyde containing a tetraphenylethylene (TPE) moiety afforded an interesting carboranyl Schiff base compound 3, a new carborane-TPE hybrid, which has been characterized by various spectroscopic methods and its structure has been studied by X-ray crystallography and theoretical calculation. Compound 3 exhibits aggregation induction emission properties and a high quantum yield of approximately 100% in the crystalline state. In addition, compound 3 shows reversible mechanochromic property. Graphical abstract
