More Cases of Breast Implant-Linked Cancer: FDA

The disease -- breast implant-associated anaplastic large-cell lymphoma -- is not breast cancer. It's an immune system cancer that can usually be cured by surgery alone if detected early, The Times reported.

In this study, we examined the impact patient travel burden has on administration of prophylactic G-CSFs and the subsequent impact on FN incidence. METHODS: Medicare claims data were used to identify a cohort of beneficiaries age 65+ with non-myeloid cancers at high risk for FN between January 2012 and December 2014. Driving distance and time were calculated from patient residence ZIP code to the location of G-CSF and/or chemotherapy administration. Regression models were used to estimate the odds of G-CSF prophylaxis relative to patient driving distance and time, and odds of FN incidence relative to timing of G-CSF ad...

Authors: Wang Y, Lan GB, Peng FH, Xie XB Abstract Renal transplantation is associated with an increased risk of cancers at multiple sites; however, the relationships between increased cancer risk and participant characteristics remain unclear. We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify prospective observational studies performed up to July 2017. Totally 11 prospective studies reported data on 79,988 renal transplant recipients were included. Renal transplant recipients were found to display a higher risk of all cancers (standard incidence ratio [SIR]: 2.89; 95% CI: 2.13-3.91; P

iot S Abstract Chemo- and radiotherapy are treatments very helpful to cure cancers but are also well known for adverse effects such as secondary cancers. Breast cancers following Hodgkin lymphoma have been relatively well studied. Breast cancers after radiotherapy covering or nearby breasts or nipples are usually carcinomas or secondary sarcomas. Among the big cohort of patients treated for breast carcinomas, breast lymphomas developed in the same area are not usual. Nevertheless, published studies described a significant increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma after initial radiotherapy for a solid cancer. Here, w...

Francisco, Yuanqing Zhang, Minhao Wu Chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T cell) therapy is a novel adoptive immunotherapy where T lymphocytes are engineered with synthetic receptors known as chimeric antigen receptors (CAR). The CAR-T cell is an effector T cell that recognizes and eliminates specific cancer cells, independent of major histocompatibility complex molecules. The whole procedure of CAR-T cell production is not well understood. The CAR-T cell has been used predominantly in the tr...

Authors: Yin LL, Wen XM, Lai QH, Li J, Wang XW Abstract Lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug and possesses anti-angiogenic and immunomodulatory activities against multiple myeloma. The present study assessed the in vitro effect of lenalidomide combined with cisplatin on MDA-MB-231, a triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line and explored the underlying molecular mechanism of this combination. Cell viability, apoptosis and the protein expression of phosphorylated (p) and total extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), caspase-3, cleaved poly-adenosine diphosphate-ribose polymer...

CONCLUSION: The incidence of STIC after RRSO in BRCA mutation carriers is low (0.8%) and it presents an excellent oncological outcome. Patients after RRSO, however, run the risk to develop other types of cancer during follow-up and should be properly advised before the prophylactic surgery. Conclusions: In conclusion, the production of IL-10 may represent a new escape mechanism by breast cancer cells to evade destruction by the immune system. IL-10 gene silencing causes down regulation of both PI3K/AKT and Bcl2 gene expression and also increases the Bbc3, BAX caspase3, and caspase 3 cleavage expression levels. IL–10 might represent a promising new target for therapeutic strategies. PMID: 29582634 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Masood A, Masood K, Hussain M, Ali W, Riaz M, Alauddin Z, Ahmad M, Masood M, Shahid A Abstract This research was conducted to generate trends and patterns of most common male and female cancers from 1984-2014 for the city population of Lahore Pakistan. Cancer incidence data gathered for different organs were processed through cleaning, integration, transformation, reduction and mining for ultimate representation. Risk of cancer appeared to be continuously increasing among both males and females. Overall, lymphomas and breast cancer are the most common neoplasm in males and females, respectively, in Lahore ...

Abstract Metronidazole is a synthetic derivative of nitroimidazole that has been widely used for the treatment of several bacterial and protozoal parasitic infections including trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, liver abscess, acute ulcerative gingivitis, syphilis and tropical phagedena. In addition to its toxicity in the gastrointestinal tract and central/peripheral nervous system, metronidazole has been reported to cause mucosal imbalance by affecting the expression of mucin (Muc2 gene), which is responsible to form an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen from microbial colonization. Since m...
