Opioid overdose visits skyrocket for N.C. emergency departments

Opioid overdose visits have skyrocketed for North Carolina emergency departments.   According to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, preliminary data shows a 40 percent increase over 2016 to more than 5,700 visits, which is also double the visits in 2009. The visits are being tracked as part of North Carolina’s Opioid Action Plan developed last year, according to NCDHHS, with goals of reducing oversupply of prescription opioids and flow of illegal drugs as well as increasing availability…
