BUDAPEST (Reuters) - A man has died of the H1N1 flu virus in a hospital in Hungary, national news agency MTI said on Tuesday, quoting regional daily Eszak-Magyarorszag.

We describe a 45-year-old man with ARDS and progressive lung fibrosis secondary to H1N1 pneumonia who was treated for 45 days with venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as a rescue utility and bridge to bilateral lung transplantation. The patient was saved and lived well. Lung transplantation may be a viable alternative for patients with lung fibrosis secondary to H1N1-induced ARDS in very selected situations.

In this study, aqueous suspensions of various active ingredients (A.I.s) were utilized to generate Engineered Water Nanostructures (EWNS) nano-sanitizers, containing the A.I. utilized to produced them (termed iEWNS). These iEWNS had nanoscale size, were loaded with ROS and contained the A.I. utilized to produce them. They were challenged with Influenza H1N1/PR/8 and Acinetobacter baumannii on surfaces and in air. The results indicate that a nanogram dose of A.I. is effective in producing significant inactivation in Influenza H1N1/PR/8 and Acinetobacter baumannii.

Abstract The H8 subtype viruses are rarely isolated from wild ducks. Shanghai is one of the important wintering or stopover sites on the East Asia-Australia Migration Flyway. An influenza virus, subtype H8N4, was firstly isolated from a common teal (Anas crecca) in Shanghai during 2017-2018 in this study. To clarify the genetic characteristics of the H8N4 virus, the whole genome sequences were analyzed. Conclusion: The outbreak started in the late monsoon (January) of 2017 and had two peaks; one in summer months and another in winter months. Influenza B virus was reported from December 2017 to May 2018. Age groups ≤5 years and 6–18 years had higher positivity as compared to other age groups. Regular surveillance programmes are required for assessing the trends of influenza infections due to various subtypes and to plan timely and adequate steps for preventing the spread to larger vulnerable population.
