In the waning days of the Civil War, Asa Harmon McCoy was murdered by a group of confederate home guards called the Logan Wildcats on his way home from the war. William Anderson “Devil Anse” Hatfield was first suspected to have committed the murder but was later confirmed to have been sick at home.
