UAB researchers make step in investigating the AIDS virus

A UAB team has solved the last unknown protein structure of HIV-1, the virus that can cause AIDS.   A research team led by Jamil Saad has unlocked and revealed the knowledge of a protein structure, called the cytoplasmic tail of gp41 protein. This can help researchers further understand how the virus infects human cells and how viruses are assembled and released from infected cells. The cyto plasmic tail has appeared to play a key role in virus assembly to help incorporate the structures into the…
