49 Patients on novel oral anticoagulants require higher doses of unfractionated heparin than those on warfarin to achieve a target act value during ablation of left atrial tachyarrhythmias

Background: The administration of unfractionated heparin (UFH)  during ablation of left atrial tachyarrhythmias has been recommended to achieve an activated clotting time (ACT) of greater than 300s. It has been recommended that warfarin therapy is uninterrupted and that novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) therapy may be interrupted or uninterrupted at the time of ablation. We investigated whether the dose of UFH required to achieve an ACT>300s is influenced by the type of concurrent oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy given.
