Open Knowledge Network (OKN) Workshop (Day 1)

The 3rd Workshop on an “ Open Knowledge Network: Enabling a Vibrant Research Community, ” will be held on Oct 4-5, 2017 at the Natcher Building. The goal of this effort is to create the largest possible Open Knowledge Network (OKN), which would evolve continuously, with new data and information. The OKN would be a fundamental building block in evolving the WWW to a new level of semantic understanding and application. The first meeting on this topic was held in July 2016 at the White House EEOB; and the second meeting was held in February 2017 at the premises of Amazon in Sunnyvale, CA. The meeting will engage participants from academia, industry, and government. The expectation is that this third meeting will begin to lay out a detailed strategy for making progress on a national OKN effort. Several of the NITRD agencies are very engaged in this activity, since it directly resonates with some of their ongoing efforts and initiatives. This includes NSF, NIH, NIST, DARPA, and NASA. These agencies will make presentations on current work supported by the respective agencies that would be synergistic with the OKN effort. Following that, the meeting will breakout into groups to delve further into technical details as well as next steps.Air date: 10/4/2017 8:00:00 AM
