Ghostbusters should come back to lead extraction arena in order to fight with ghosts

I was grateful to read an interesting paper by Narducciet al.1 which showed an association of the presence of ‘ghost’ after transvenous lead extraction (TLE) with Charlson co-morbidity index and intra-cardiac echocardiography (ICE) detected endocarditis. They also demonstrated that the occurrence of ‘ghost’ after TLE and systemic infection on admission were found as independent predictors of mortali ty at median 11 months follow-up. However, the pathophysiological mechanism for development of ‘ghost’ and its association with increased mortality were unclear.
