Report: Maternity care at Mass. hospitals varies widely

Having a baby? Your hospital may not be performing as well as you ’d hope when it comes to maternity care. Data released in September by the state’s Center for Health Information and Analysis shows wide disparities in how the state’s hospitals perform on three maternity procedures: early elective deliveries (Caesarean section or induction prior to 39 weeks without medical reason); incidence of episiotomy; and Caesarean section for low-risk pregnancies.
