K2M launches Everest MI XTower spinal instrumentation

K2M (NSDQ:KTWO) said yesterday it launched its Everest minimally invasive XTower instrumentation designed to work with its Everest MI XT spinal system. The XTower addition allows surgeons to use the Everest MI XT system to treat complex defomities to achieve 3-dimensional spinal balance, the Leesburg, Va.-based company said. “The addition of the Everest MI XTower to the Everest MI XT spinal system provides surgeons with intraoperative customization of screw extension rigidity based on the intended clinical application. The increased screw extension strength provided by the XTower allows surgeons to treat a full spectrum of pathologies utilizing one system,” Dr. Ashok Biyani of Toledo, Ohio’s Orthopedic Surgeons said in a press release. The newly launched instrumentation includes a tab-to-screw assembly to rigidly reinforce the Everest MI XT screw tabs, and provides 35mm of reduction where necessary, K2M said. “I regularly treat complex deformity, tumor, and trauma patients in my practice. The XTower provides the ability to customize the power of the reduction to perform complex procedures utilizing minimally invasive techniques,” Dr. Michael Selby of Australia’s Adelaide Spine Clinic said in a prepared statement. Last month, K2M saw shares drop after it met loss per share expectations but missed sales consensus on Wall Street with its 2nd quarter earnings results.
