KC eye doc: New LASIK procedure could grow patient base

Dr. John Doane said a growing number of patients are coming to his office for a new surgical alternative to LASIK. Recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat nearsighted patients, small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) makes a tiny incision in the outer cornea, for a shorter recovery time and fewer dry-eye side effects.
