T Cell Zone Resident Macrophages Silently Dispose of Apoptotic Cells in the Lymph Node
Dendritic cells (DCs) in the lymph node (LN) T cell zone are thought to be central to the clearance of apoptotic cells and T cell priming. Baratin et al. identify a population of LN macrophages that act as the sole professional scavengers in this area, suggesting that silent efferocytosis and T cell activation in the LN paracortex involve t wo different cell types—macrophages and DCs, respectively.
