You should bear in mind though that if you're doing medicine, even on a special course like the Manchester European Studies MB ChB, you're still a medic first and foremost and you'd be learning the language in a different way to students who are doing a BA in French. If you want to be immersed in French culture, history and literature, a languages degree...
