​Alabama's state health officer to retire this year

Alabama's state health officer is vacating his position this year. Dr. Thomas M. Miller is retiring from his role with the Alabama Department of Public Health on Sept. 1, AL.com reports. In 2015, Miller had assumed the role after Dr. Don Williamson stepped down. Miller was criticized this month for hiring James Talton, the former director of the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. He had been fired in 2014 for neglect of duty.
