Sommetrics wins Health Canada nod for non-invasive sleep apnea device

San Diego-based Sommetrics said yesterday it won Health Canada approval for its AerSleep system designed to apply negative external pressure to maintain an open airway during sleep. The company said that the AerSleep system was cleared as a prescription device for individuals diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. The system features a soft collar and integrated silent vacuum pump to allow sleeping in multiple positions, and has no hoses or masks, is cordless, portable and non-invasive, the company said. “Obtaining Health Canada’s approval for aerSleep is a major milestone for us. It’s a validation of our technology and a vital step in our commercial growth, and lays the groundwork for achieving our mission of improving the quality of sleep for people worldwide,” CEO Dr. Richard Rose said in a press release. In April, Sommetrics said it closed a $12.3 million stock financing Series B round to support commercialization of the company’s sleep products. The round was financed by new and current investors, Sommetrics said. The post Sommetrics wins Health Canada nod for non-invasive sleep apnea device appeared first on MassDevice.
