"Imposter" Ambulances Now Illegal in Texas

Some of you may recall back in 2012, a local business owner re-branded a retired ambulance as the 'Slambulance.'  The ‘Slambulance’ is a party bus, complete with a stripper pole, neon interior lights and a full wet bar.  An excerpt from the article: Paramedics at Fort Worth's ambulance service Medstar are raising questions about a boxy vehicle driving on city streets with the word "ambulance" on the front and red and blue lights on top -- but isn't a real ambulance. "Just like anybody when they see it for the first time, it looks like a legitimate ambulance," said Medstar spokesman Matt Zavadsky.  Read the full article. MedStar took significant exception to this vehicle operating on the streets of Fort Worth for many reasons, but we found out it was not against the law to operate a vehicle like this, so although Fort Worth PD wanted to arrest the owner/operator, but oddly, he was not violating any laws. We reached out to our local State Representative, Craig Goldman, to sponsor legislation making this practice illegal.
