Evaluation of teledermatology implementation with insurance reimbursement in outpatient primary care practices

Background: Teledermatology has been shown to provide acceptably equivalent diagnosis and management compared to in person evaluation. Further, studies have shown excellent patient satisfaction with teledermatology care, and it shows great promise as a triage tool for both inpatient and outpatient dermatology consults from primary care providers. However, despite strong evidence supporting its use, implementation of teledermatology has been limited by liability concerns, licensing regulation, and especially nonreimbursement.
