DarmaniAbstractGlycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK-3) is a constitutively active multifunctional serine-threonine kinase which is involved in diverse physiological processes. GSK-3 has been implicated in a wide range of diseases including neurodegeneration, inflammation, diabetes and cancer. GSK-3 is a downstream target for protein kinase B (Akt) which phosphorylates GSK-3 and suppresses its activity. Based upon our preliminary findings, we postulated Akt's involvement in emesis. The aim of this study was to investi...

Abstract In recent years, there have been exciting new insights into pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes in a number of areas of immunology. In this edition, a collection of four review articles are presented, which encompass new findings presented at the Immunology of Diabetes Society meeting in London 2018. The articles are focused particularly in 4 related areas of investigation, which include autoantibodies in type 1 diabetes, new autoantigenic targets for CD4 T cells, trafficking of immune cells to the pancreas and islet-immune interactions in the pancreas. Conclusions: The results show that GLP-1 infusion suppresses the postprandial secretion of gastrin in normal subjects and even more so in the diabetes patients. The results may therefore shed further light on the upper gastrointestinal side effects of GLP-1-derived drugs in diabetic patients. PMID: 31725337 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study aimed to investigate the risk behaviors of adolescents with T1D and the effect of orthorexic eating behaviors (OEB) on glycemic control (GC). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 107 adolescents with T1D who were between 13-18 years of age and attended high school. The risk behavior scale (RBS) and orthorexic behavior scale (ORTO-11) were administered to the participants. A high RBS score indicates risky behavior; a low ORTO-11 score suggests a tendency to OEB. At the same time, participants were tested for GC and categorized as optimal GC (HbA1c ≤7%) or poor GC (HbA1c>7%). Result...

METHODS: This was a prospective, multicenter, non-randomized, post-market release study. A total of 43 adult patients with T1D on insulin pump therapy and inadequate glycemic control (HbA1c> 7.0%) participated in...
