Claudin-17 reduced expression is associated with high histologic grade and shorter overall survival in canine mammary carcinoma

AbstractThe present study investigates Claudin-17 expression in canine mammary carcinomas by means of immunohistochemistry and its relationships with histologic grades, overall survival and tumour recurrence. Our results show that Claudin-17 expression is reduced significantly in canine mammary carcinomas compared with normal canine mammary tissues. High histologic grade and shorter overall survival have been shown to be significantly associated with Claudin-17 reduced expression. Results of this study suggest a possible relationship between reduction of Claudin-17 and canine mammary carcinoma pathogenesis.
