Vet struck off following convictions

The RCVS Disciplinary Committee has directed that the name of Kirk Thompson should be removed from the RCVS Register after finding him unfit to practise veterinary surgery. At a hearing on January 26, the committee heard that in April 2014 Mr Thompson had been convicted at Newcastle Crown Court of manslaughter, assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of methylamphetamine. He was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment. The RCVS reports that, while the College opened a case against Mr Thompson in 2014, it was only in October 2015 that it received confirmation from the Supreme Court of the final conclusion of his subsequent, and ultimately unsuccessful, appeals against his conviction and sentencing. The College reports that Mr Thompson admitted the convictions but did not attend the disciplinary hearing and declined the opportunity to attend by video link.
