Top tips on endoscopy in post –bariatric surgery patients

Modern practitioners of endoscopy will often find themselves called upon by their surgical colleagues to investigate and treat adverse events related to bariatric surgeries. Many endoscopists have had the unsettling experience of realizing, during the endoscopic procedure itself, that they do not really understand the anatomy they are looking at, let  alone what the problem is and how to fix it. As such, it becomes incumbent on us as endoscopists to have a working knowledge of the most commonly performed bariatric surgical reconstructions, their typical failure modes, and the various approaches to treatment.
