Dealing with the Elephant in the Waiting Room – Clipboards and Paper Forms

I recently had a visit to the doctor’s office for a routine procedure.  I kid you not that I was asked to complete essentially the same forms 3 different times.  Two times electronically and once on paper.  The staff assured me that the forms were asking different questions.  I frustratingly assured them that 95% of the questions were the same.  It was an awful experience for me as a patient and no doubt for them to have to review 3 different sets of forms.  While not every office is this disorganized, the patient experience when it comes to clipboards and patient forms has a lot to be desired at many healthcare organizations. The most frustrating part of the experience for me was that I knew there was a better way.  In fact, I’d seen it first hand when I was at the HIMSS 2024 conference where I filmed a demo of Interlace Health’s product which streamlines patient forms and consents.  In the demo video embedded below, I learn more about some of the Interlace Health features from Dessiree Paoli, Director of Product Marketing and Strategy, and Ellie Silver, Solution Architect at Interlace Health. The key elements I saw from Interlace Health was how they’d worked hard to automate workflows, pre-fill in forms, and streamline the process for staff and patients.  Paoli called their efforts putting “People over Paperwork.”  What an important initiative when you think about patients generally arriving for care with an illness or sickness....
