Culturally responsive care for menopausal women

Over 6 million women worldwide enter menopause annually [1]. Although menopause is a universal physiologic phenomenon, women experience, respond to, and seek care for menopause in different ways. This is because of the complex interactions between biological, physiologic, psychological, social, and cultural factors [2 –7]. Culture includes customs; language; values; and social, religious, racial, or ethnic identities, actions, and beliefs. All of these factors inform individuals' perceptions, general health behaviors, care-seeking, and symptom management [6,8].
