Beyond JAAD July 2024

The authors performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of published literature from 2000-2022 to assess the prevalence and incidence of hand eczema (HE) in health care workers (HCW). Sixteen studies were included, providing a population of 24,438 HCWs, with the majority being women (85%, n  = 19,331/22,648) and the mean age range being 29.6 to 46.2 years. Nurses and auxiliary nurses constituted the largest group (84%, n = 14,553/17,293), followed by physicians (13%, n = 2248/17,293). Pooled lifetime self-reported HE in HCWs was 33.4% with a 1-year prevalence of 27.4%.
