Picture This

Last year I helped my mom downsize from her 3-bedroom brick ranch to a townhome roughly half the size. Sorting through decades of possessions and memorabilia prompted a few tears and many chuckles. Closets bulged with clothing so “vintage” it was once again fashionable (bell bottoms, anyone?). Cabinets hid enough dishes for a White House state dinner. Towering banker boxes held a photo archive of documentary proportions. That massive assortment of images—professional portraits, glossy black and white snapshots from my first Kodak Brownie, cardboard-stiff Polaroids, and satin prints from digital film—were reminders of earlier times and technology.
