Russell body esophagitis and Barrett's esophagus

Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.17235/reed.2024.10343/2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT85-year-old woman being studied for anemia, an endoscopy is performed where there is evidence of two areas with metaplastic appearance in the distal portion of the esophagus, which are biopsied. Histologic exam reveals a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate with the presence of Russell cells and foci of intestinal metaplasia without evidence of dysplasia. Although not the usual location, it must be acknowledged that there is a possibility of recognizing Russell bodies in the context of esophageal inflammation and its possible association with Barrett's esophagus.PMID:38525847 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10343/2024
