The stratum corneum (SC) forms the main barrier of the skin that protects the body and controls the permeability to various substances. While an intact barrier is essential for healthy skin, it presents a challenge for topical delivery. Because a topical product's effectiveness depends on the ability to cross the SC and reach a specific skin target, reliable methods are needed to evaluate dermal penetration.
