Comment on; Psychopathology, Disordered Eating, and Impulsivity as Predictors of Weight Loss Twenty-Four Months after Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is the most effective obesity treatment for patients with a BMI> 35 kg/m2, and similar to all weight loss approaches, weight recurrence ( ≥ 10%) occurs in a substantial minority of patients1. A recent review identified psychological (anxiety, depression) and behavioral (loss of control eating, physical activity) factors associated with weight recurrence1. Importantly, these factors were measured post-surgically rather than pre-surgi cally. Indeed, despite significant examination, research has not consistently demonstrated that pre-surgical psychopathology or behaviors predict post-surgical weight outcomes.
