Stenting for internal carotid artery stenosis accompanied by aberrant origin of occipital and ascending pharyngeal artery

A 35-year-old male with two previous left cerebral infarctions had a stenotic lesion in the left internal carotid artery (ICA) after a close examination by carotid ultrasonography and magnetic resonance angiography. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a 70% stenosis of the ICA, concurrently confirming a common trunk arising from the distal 29 mm of the carotid bifurcation, where the occipital and ascending pharyngeal artery branched off (A/cover, B).
