Abstract No. 124 Sequelae of Splenic Embolization by Age: A Retrospective Analysis

SAE is a widely used intervention to manage traumatic splenic hemorrhage and hypersplenism from varying diseases. Previous studies have indicated that older adult patients receiving SAE have a higher incidence of major complications following intervention. SAE complication rates have also been shown to be increased when performed distally. [3]. Surgical studies demonstrate higher rates of complications after laparoscopic splenectomy in older adults. The sequelae of SAE and associated complications, length of hospital stay (LOH), and need for splenectomy may not differ between age groups .
