Results of a Simple Treatment Protocol for Aseptic Femoral Shaft Nonunion in 330 patients

Femoral shaft fractures occur usually in young adults and are the result of high energy injuries like road traffic accidents or fall from height. Interlocking nailing is considered the gold standard in treating such fractures with good results [1]. Despite its high success rate, nonunion of upto 12.5% has been reported [2]. Nonunion occurs mainly due to lack of adequate stability, avascular bony edges and bone loss at the fracture site [3,4]. Management of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion (AFNU) is a challenge to any orthopedic surgeon.
