Podium Presentation Title: Should Surgeon Medicare Reimbursement for Arthroscopy Be Risk-Adjusted for Patient Complexity?

Currently there is an increasing focus on quality of care delivered in the United States, especially relating to payment structure. Recent payment reform has introduced important risk-adjustment for hospital and facility payment based upon patient complexity. However, this does not currently exist for Medicare surgeon fees, which are flat reimbursements largely unrelated to patient characteristics. However, it is well known that more complex patients require increased resources and pre-operative optimization for their care.
