Omitting the Fifth Largest Subspecialty from a Medical Residents Survey? —Reply

In Reply We thank Shalev et al for their thoughtful response to our Research Letter that described the dramatic decrease in residents selecting general internal medicine as a career choice per data from the American College of Physicians (ACP) Internal Medicine in-Training Examination (IM-ITE) survey. This decline potentially signals a worsening shortage in primary care physicians that may negatively affect patients as well as practitioners who are currently working in the overburdened system.
