Exploring the Brave but Not-So-New World of Value-based Care

The concept of value-based care (VBC) isn ’t new, but there is new urgency for practitioners and other stakeholders to understand what VBC is and how it impacts them and their patients. This urgency comes most significantly from a recent announcement by the Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services that 100% of Medicare beneficiaries will be aligned with a risk pool by 2030. The recent policy forum “Finding Your Value in Evolving Payment Models,” sponsored by AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine and its Practice Group Management Network (PGN), offered expert insight into the world of VBC and the coding and billing issues that go with it.
