Hyperbaric oxygen treatment promotes axonal outgrowth
Objective: Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is a promising therapeutic approach to promote peripheral nerve regeneration. Underlying mechanisms of action are poorly understood resulting in inconsistent treatment protocols and unclear indications. The present study evaluated the effects of single or repeated HBO treatment alone or in combination with nerve growth factor (NGF) on PC12 cells. Cell proliferation, survival and differentiation (neurite outgrowth) were analyzed.
