Surgical treatment of chronic proximal patellar tendon tears grades 3 and 4 using augmentation with quadriceps tendon-bone graft

Proximal patellar tendinosis with partial tendon tears represents a late stage of a painful overuse condition of the proximal bone-tendon junction tissue. It commonly affects athletes in jumping sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball, football, handball), but also patients with occupations with repetitive overloading and microtrauma (ballet) [1 –14]. To document patellar tendinosis, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used [6,10].
