Commentary to “The correlation between ureteric orifice morphology and primary vesicoureteral reflux grade and the impact on the effectiveness of endoscopic reflux correction”

The authors report on "the correlation between ureteric orifice morphology and primary vesicoureteral reflux grade and the impact on the effectiveness of endoscopic reflux correction". (1) The classification of ureteral orifice shape and its relation to VUR was described by Lyon in 1969 into 4 distinct but highly subjective groups (2). Since its inception there has been an effort to move away from the subjective nature of ureteral orifice morphology. In our experience, the UO appearance changes with degree of bladder filling and most UOs appear as a “horseshoe” configuration.
