Psychosexual functioning and mental health and psychological considerations in adult patients with congenital urologic issues

Patients who are born with congenital urologic issues or who undergo urological surgery in childhood may face a wide range of challenges affecting their long-term genitourinary, mental health and overall quality of life outcomes [1]. Predicting which if any of these an individual patient will experience any of these is difficult given the heterogeneous nature of the population, the varied conditions they face, and the protective factors they may have [2]. Therefore, understanding the risks pertinent to these populations and developing proper communication methods with which to address the needs of patients and their caregivers is vitally important.
