Commentary to JPUROL-D-23-00300: “Heresy - Is There a Role for Ultrasound in Management of the Non-palpable Testicle?”

The authors report that with modern US technology coupled with dedicated pediatric radiologist participation, a higher degree of accuracy is possible in imaging NPTs compared to previous years (1). Starting with an US would certainly be useful in patients who are difficult to carefully examine because of obesity or lack of cooperation, and in high-risk patients who have had previous intraabdominal surgery. The authors have a preference to use US rather than laparoscopy as their first step in searching for the NPT.
